An IAQ Observatory: What can we get from the French experience?

30 August 2018

Dr Corinne Mandin, Head of IAQ and Exposure Assessment Unit, Scientific and Technical Center for Building (CSTB), France, presented the governance and the functioning of The French Indoor air Quality Observatory (IAQO).

French authorities set up “The French Indoor Air Quality Observatory (IAQO)” in 2001. The main objective was to collect data on pollutants from indoor environment that could be used for evidence-based policy. Funded exclusively by public funding, the IAQO is coordinated by the Scientific and Technical Center for Building (CSTB) and involved partners across France for data collection, analysis and reporting. Nationwide surveys were carried out in dwellings (2003-2005), in schools (2013-2017), and in office buildings (2013-2017). Next year, the IAQO will survey age care facilities. The results of each survey are publicly available.
